Secondary School Supply Teacher

Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, flexible, and committed Secondary Supply Teachers to work across a range of schools throughout Plymouth. This role offers an excellent opportunity for qualified teachers who value flexibility, enjoy working in varied educational environments, and are passionate about positively impacting pupils’ learning experiences.

As a Supply Teacher, you will deliver pre-prepared lessons, maintain a supportive and well-managed classroom environment, and ensure pupils remain engaged and focused throughout the school day. You will be confident in quickly adapting to new school settings, building positive relationships with staff and pupils, and supporting learners with a range of academic, behavioural, and additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, high-quality lessons in line with school planning and curriculum requirements
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively and encourage positive pupil participation
• Adapt teaching approaches to meet the individual needs and abilities of learners
• Support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs where required
• Establish strong professional relationships with pupils, colleagues, and school leadership teams
• Adhere to all school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and behaviour management
• Provide clear handover notes and feedback to class teachers when appropriate
• Demonstrate professionalism and flexibility when working across different schools and year groups

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Early Career Teacher (ECT), or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
• Previous experience working within a Secondary School setting
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Flexible, reliable, and professional approach to work
• Ability to adapt quickly to new environments and teaching assignments
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Desirable Experience

• Experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or additional behavioural needs
• Training in behaviour management, de-escalation strategies, or trauma-informed practice
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive teaching practices
