The Role
We are seeking a resilient, patient, and committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, alongside additional learning and communication difficulties.
You will play a key role in creating a safe, structured learning environment while supporting pupils both academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assist with the delivery of tailored learning activities
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using consistent approaches
- Build positive relationships with pupils to support engagement and trust
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and social development
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams
- Contribute to EHCP targets and individual learning plans
- Promote independence, communication, and life skills
- Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working with SEMH, behavioural needs, or complex learners (essential)
- Alternatively, strong behaviour management experience in education or care settings
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships
- Team player with a proactive attitude
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
- Enhanced DBS on the update service – or willing to obtain one
