Teaching Assistant – Specialist School (Complex Needs)
Location: Cranleigh, Surrey
Permanent Position
Full-Time or Minimum 3 Days per Week (Wednesday Essential)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We are seeking a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Cranleigh that supports children and young people with complex needs. This is a permanent opportunity offering either full-time hours or a minimum of three days per week, with availability on Wednesdays being essential.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them access education, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals within a nurturing and highly supportive environment.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to provide personalised support to pupils with complex learning, physical, communication, and sensory needs. You will play a key role in promoting student wellbeing, engagement, and progress both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day.

  • Assist with the delivery of tailored learning activities and therapeutic programmes.

  • Provide personal care where required, maintaining dignity, respect, and safeguarding at all times.

  • Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and social development.

  • Help create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and families to support pupil outcomes.

  • Record observations and contribute to pupil progress monitoring.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is highly desirable.

  • Experience supporting individuals with complex needs, learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, or communication difficulties would be advantageous.

  • Comfortable providing personal care as part of daily support responsibilities.

  • Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to commit to Wednesdays as a minimum requirement.

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Psychology, or related fields are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
