Are you a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Academics is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Mid Sussex for a full-time SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This rewarding role involves providing dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with additional needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop confidence, and thrive both academically and socially. Working alongside the class teacher, SENCO and wider support staff, you'll play a vital role in creating a positive and nurturing learning experience.

The Role

  • Full-time, term-time only position.
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs.
  • Support learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Adapt activities to meet the child's individual learning and communication needs.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Promote the child's emotional wellbeing and social development.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, parents and external professionals where appropriate.

  • Experience supporting children with SEN is desirable, particularly in a primary school setting.
  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
