SEN Teaching Assistant – Runcorn, Cheshire

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs in schools across Runcorn. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children by helping them access education and achieve their full potential.

Roles are available supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, across different age ranges and needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEND
  • Support children with a range of needs including autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, and speech & language difficulties
  • Assist the class teacher with planning and delivering differentiated learning
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and support emotional regulation
  • Adapt learning materials to suit individual needs
  • Track and report on pupil progress and engagement
  • Promote independence, confidence, and social development

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children with SEND in a school or care setting
  • A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
  • A commitment to safeguarding and child welfare

Desirable

  • Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3)
  • Additional SEND training (e.g. Team Teach, Autism Awareness)
  • Experience working with EHCPs or behaviour support plans
