Based within a specialist communication resource provision in the Normanton area, this full-time role operates on a long-term and day-to-day ad-hoc supply basis.

About the School
They are a dedicated and highly regarded communication resource provision attached to a mainstream setting, specialising in supporting pupils with significant speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), including autism. They pride themselves on offering a highly structured, communication-rich environment where targeted interventions are seamlessly integrated into the school day. The team there is collaborative, welcoming, and entirely committed to helping every child develop their speech, social interaction, and independence in a safe and inclusive space.
Skills Required

Communication Support: Strong interpersonal skills and an intuitive approach to supporting children with speech, language, and communication difficulties or autism.

Adaptability: The ability to modify classroom instructions, visual aids, and learning resources dynamically to suit individual cognitive and developmental levels.

Patience & Empathy: A calm, encouraging nature capable of building trusting relationships with pupils who may experience frustration due to communication barriers.

Collaboration: Exceptional teamwork skills to work effectively alongside class teachers, resource leads, and external speech and language therapists.
Job Responsibilities

Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils within the resource provision, using communication tools and visual schedules to facilitate learning.

Assisting the teacher in adapting learning materials and managing the classroom environment to ensure it remains a safe and highly supportive space.

Helping students develop their social skills, emotional regulation, and communication independence during structured lessons and break times.

Monitoring, tracking, and recording student progress, boosting their self-esteem, and strictly adhering to all safeguarding protocols.
Essential Requirements

Full eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available for this role).

An enhanced DBS check on the update service, or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad.

Previous experience working with children with special educational needs within the UK (specific experience with speech and language difficulties or autism is highly desirable).
