Senior Analytical Chemist – Advanced Mass Spectrometry

Dundee | Full-Time | Permanent

Join an Exciting New Phase of Growth

SRG are partnering with an innovative and rapidly growing organisation within the life sciences sector to recruit an experienced Senior Analytical Chemist with strong expertise in advanced mass spectrometry. This is a fantastic opportunity to join at the early stages of a significant laboratory expansion project, giving you the chance to play a key role in shaping analytical capabilities, influencing best practices, and establishing new ways of working from the ground up.

Based in a newly refurbished laboratory, you'll have access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and brand-new equipment, providing an outstanding environment to apply and further develop your technical expertise.

The Opportunity

Our client is looking for a highly skilled analytical scientist with substantial hands-on experience of LC-MS/MS and/or GC-MS/MS, particularly triple quadrupole systems. While experience within a GMP environment would be beneficial, the primary focus is identifying an individual with exceptional technical capability, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for generating high-quality analytical data.

Working with complex sample matrices, you will play a central role in developing and advancing analytical methods while supporting the growth of a modern, expanding laboratory function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimise and troubleshoot analytical methods using LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS and other analytical instrumentation
  • Analyse complex sample matrices, including oils, lipids and other challenging materials
  • Support method validation activities in line with industry guidelines and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure analytical data meets the highest standards of quality, robustness and integrity
  • Act as a subject matter expert for mass spectrometry across the laboratory
  • Troubleshoot analytical and instrumentation challenges
  • Contribute to laboratory process improvements and technical best practices
  • Support the ongoing development of quality and compliance systems within the laboratory

This is a highly visible, hands-on role offering genuine influence as the organisation continues to build and invest in its analytical capabilities.

About You

You will possess:

  • A BSc, MSc or PhD in Analytical Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
  • Extensive practical experience using LC-MS/MS and/or GC-MS/MS (essential)
  • Strong experience in analytical method development and optimisation
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • A proven track record of producing accurate, reliable analytical data
  • Experience working with complex sample matrices
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to scientific excellence
  • An interest in developing expertise within regulated laboratory environments

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working within a GMP or other regulated environment
  • Exposure to ICP-MS or complementary analytical techniques
  • Knowledge of data integrity principles, including ALCOA+

Why Apply?

  • Join an organisation at an exciting stage of growth and development
  • Be involved from the outset of a major laboratory expansion project
  • Work in a newly refurbished facility equipped with brand-new instrumentation
  • Influence laboratory processes, methods and technical direction
  • Develop your expertise within a supportive and collaborative environment
  • Work alongside talented scientists on technically challenging analytical projects
  • Excellent opportunity for career progression as the function continues to grow

If you're an experienced mass spectrometry specialist looking to take on a highly technical role with the opportunity to make a genuine impact, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
