Senior EC&I Design Engineer : Workington, Cumbria
Salary : £50,000 – £65,000
MacArthur Recruitment are looking for an EC&I Design Engineer who thrives on turning concepts into engineered reality. Nuclear, heavy engineering, regulated industries sector. You will need to be able to gain security clearance for nuclear sites eg P4, SC, BPSS.
Summary: Design and integrate safety-critical electrical, control, and instrumentation systems for equipment used in nuclear sites.

- 40 hrs/wk, Monday – Friday.
Overview of the role of Senior EC&I Design Engineer :
The role is mainly focused on industrial control system and control panel design including the following:-
- Developing control system concepts
- Designing motor control panels and associated systems in line with relevant standards (i.e., BS EN etc)
- Producing electrical/control drawings using AutoCAD Electrical
- Designing power, control, safety, interlocks, and VFD/VSD circuits
- Completing engineering calculations (load, cable sizing, protection, thermal, reliability, etc.)
- Carrying out design risk assessments in line with standards such as ISO 12100 and ISO 13849-1
- Producing supporting documentation, including specifications, Basis of Design documents, O&M manuals, and FAT/CAT/SAT documentation
- Designing related equipment such as junction boxes, interface panels, and CCTV systems
- Specifying equipment suitable for harsh nuclear environments
- Production of full design packs for modification or new-build projects
- Participate in project meetings, communicate with stakeholders
- Supporting site surveys at Sellafield or other nuclear locations
- Ensuring compliance with Sellafield standards, nuclear safety cases, and relevant legislation
- Working in multi-disciplinary teams delivering engineered solutions from concept through commissioning.
The C&I element is important because much of the work involves control, safety and system integration rather than conventional electrical infrastructure design.
Your experience for the role of Senior EC&I Design Engineer :
- Proficient in the use of Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical
- HNC, HND or degree in Electrical Design Engineering or similar
- Commercial Electrical Design to a high level
- Nuclear Industry, industrial, heavy engineering or similar
- Strong problem solving capabilities
- Effective teamwork and communication in multi-disciplinary environments
- Ability to obtain security clearance for nuclear sites (eg P4, SC, BPSS).
