Senior Property Lawyer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Property Lawyer to join a well-established local authority legal team on a locum basis.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a broad range of high-quality commercial and residential property matters while supporting major projects, acquisitions, disposals, regeneration schemes and landlord & tenant work. The successful candidate will play a key role within the legal team, managing a varied caseload and supporting junior colleagues where required.
The Role
You will provide specialist property law advice to a range of internal stakeholders, supporting council departments on both strategic and day-to-day property transactions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a mixed caseload of commercial and residential property matters.
- Advising on acquisitions, disposals, leases, licences and easements.
- Supporting property development and regeneration projects.
- Advising on landlord and tenant matters.
- Providing legal support on land transactions and wider property-related issues.
- Supervising and mentoring fee earners within the team.
- Building effective relationships with clients and stakeholders across the organisation.
- Deputising for the Principal Property Lawyer when required.
- Working collaboratively to support the wider objectives of the legal service.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Have strong experience in commercial and/or residential property law.
- Ideally have local government or wider public sector experience, although candidates from private practice will also be considered.
- Be confident handling both routine and complex property matters independently.
- Have experience supervising and supporting junior legal professionals.
- Possess excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- Be comfortable managing competing priorities and working to tight deadlines.
- Be proficient in the use of case management systems and legal research tools.
- Demonstrate a proactive, collaborative and solution-focused approach.
