Service Charge & Rent Officer
Permanent Full-Time (37 hours per week)
Role Overview:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Service Charge & Rent Officer to take a lead role in managing service charge and rent processes across a housing portfolio of 7,000+ homes, including homeowners, freeholders, estates, and garages.
This role is responsible for ensuring accurate administration, compliance, and clear communication of service charges and rent applications, while working collaboratively across departments and with external managing agents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise with internal departments (e.g., Housing, Asset) to gather data and ensure budgets accurately reflect service delivery costs
- Issue annual rent and service charge notifications in line with regulatory requirements and best practice
- Provide clear, transparent breakdowns of charges, including explanations for cost changes
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., Leasehold Reform Act, Landlord & Tenant Act 1985, Housing Acts)
- Manage estate-based charges, utility billing, and service charge arrangements
- Ensure all statutory obligations are met, including service charge certification and reporting
- Respond to resident queries, explaining charges clearly and professionally
- Work with and oversee third-party managing agents where applicable
- Support policy and procedural updates in line with legislative changes
- Contribute to service improvements using data insights and performance monitoring
Your Experience
- Proven experience in service charges, rents, or similar roles within housing/property management
- Experience managing complex service charges, estate charges, and diverse rent models
- Strong understanding of leasehold management and Section 20 consultation processes
- CIH Level 2 (or above), or working towards (desirable)
