Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical Bias (Crane Maintenance Experience) Dudley, West Midlands
£40,000 – £50,000 DOE + Overtime
Rotating 2 Shift Pattern (6:00am–2:00pm / 2:00pm–10:00pm)
We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with overhead crane maintenance experience to join one of the West Midlands' leading structural steelwork contractors and fabricators. The RoleAs part of the engineering team, you will be responsible for the planned and reactive mechanical maintenance of overhead cranes, lifting equipment, and production machinery, ensuring maximum reliability and minimal downtime. Candidates with basic electrical fault-finding experience are also encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on overhead cranes and lifting equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on cranes, gearboxes, motors, brakes, bearings, chains, wheels, and drive systems
- Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Perform welding, fabrication, bench fitting, and mechanical assembly work
- Replace and align mechanical components, including shafts, couplings, and bearings
- Assist with crane inspections and planned servicing
- Support electrical fault diagnosis where required
- Complete maintenance records and ensure all work is carried out safely and efficiently
- Work closely with production teams to minimise equipment downtime
About You
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Time-served apprenticeship preferred
- Proven experience maintaining overhead cranes, lifting equipment, or heavy industrial machinery
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills
- Welding and fabrication experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, and rotating equipment
- Basic electrical fault-finding skills would be advantageous
- Experience within structural steel, steel processing, manufacturing, foundry, recycling, or other heavy industrial environments
- Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
