SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Watford
Pay: £465 – £500
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, permanent position
Academics are seeking dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants or Psychology graduates in Watford who are passionate about supporting children with special educational needs.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may require additional support with their learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, or social development. Many learners benefit from having patient, dependable, and encouraging adults who can help them feel confident and engaged within the classroom environment.
The pupils you support may face challenges such as:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD and difficulties with concentration
- Speech, language, and communication needs
- Anxiety or emotional regulation difficulties
- Moderate learning difficulties
- Social and interaction challenges
By providing encouragement, structure, and consistency, you will help pupils build confidence, develop independence, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils during lessons so they can access learning activities
- Adapting support to meet individual learning and emotional needs
- Acting as a positive role model, demonstrating patience and encouragement
- Supporting pupils both individually and in small group settings
- Encouraging positive social interaction and communication skills
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff
- Helping to maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
You will ideally be:
- A calm, caring, and positive individual
- Passionate about supporting children with additional needs
- Skilled at building trusting relationships with young people
- Resilient, adaptable, and patient
- A team player with strong communication skills
Previous experience supporting SEN or SEND pupils is beneficial but not essential. The school values individuals who are willing to learn and develop within education and training.
