Job Overview
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a busy and well-established builders’ merchant, for a 3.5T Van Driver & Yard Operative. This is a hands-on dual-role position involving customer deliveries alongside general yard and warehouse duties.
The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring products and building materials are delivered safely and efficiently while maintaining an organised and safe yard environment. This role is ideal for someone with experience in driving, construction supplies, builders’ merchants or warehouse operations.
Salary: Up to £31,500 DOE
Hours: Monday – Friday + Alternate Saturday mornings
Key Responsibilities
Driving Duties
- Safely operate a 3.5-tonne van for local deliveries and collections
- Deliver building materials to trade and domestic customers
- Load and unload goods safely and securely
- Complete delivery paperwork accurately
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report any defects
- Provide excellent customer service during deliveries
Yard Operative Duties
- Assist with loading customer vehicles and delivery vans
- Pick and prepare orders accurately
- Organise and maintain stock within the yard and warehouse
- Keep the yard clean, safe, and tidy at all times
- Support goods-in and stock replenishment activities
- Follow all health & safety procedures
Candidate Requirements
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Previous 3.5T van driving experience preferred
- Experience working within a builders merchant, warehouse or yard environment advantageous
- Good understanding of manual handling and health & safety
- Physically fit and comfortable lifting heavy materials
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Forklift licence desirable
