We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join a well-established and highly regarded organisation in Winchester. Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a key role in delivering financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and financial analysis across multiple entities.

The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Management Accountant will support the full range of finance activities, ensuring the delivery of accurate financial information, effective financial controls, and high-quality management reporting.
This is a broad and varied position, offering exposure to financial accounting, management accounting, statutory reporting, VAT compliance, payroll oversight, budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare accurate monthly and termly management accounts
- Perform month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
- Monitor income streams, expenditure and key financial metrics
- Produce financial analysis, commentary and variance reporting
- Support financial modelling and scenario planning
- Assist with reporting for senior leadership and governing bodies
- Prepare statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors
- Oversee general ledger integrity and transaction coding
- Support payroll processes, ensuring compliance and accuracy
- Maintain fixed asset registers, including additions, disposals and depreciation
- Contribute to cash flow reporting and balance sheet management
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial legislation and regulatory requirements
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the annual budgeting process and work closely with budget holders
- Prepare rolling forecasts and financial projections
- Monitor capital expenditure and provide detailed variance analysis
- Support strategic decision-making through financial modelling and analysis
- Assist with performance reporting and KPI monitoring
VAT & Compliance
- Prepare and review VAT returns
- Ensure accurate VAT treatment across financial transactions
- Monitor legislative changes and implement required updates
- Support VAT recovery initiatives and compliance reviews
- Assist with VAT registrations and related processes
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls
- Review and enhance reporting procedures
- Support finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute ideas to improve efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness across the finance function
About You
We are looking for a qualified accountant who combines strong technical accounting expertise with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
You will ideally have:
- ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualification (or equivalent)
- Significant post-qualified experience within a management accounting role
- Experience producing monthly management accounts and financial reporting
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis experience
- Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing external audits
- Strong VAT knowledge and compliance experience
- A track record of delivering process improvements and strengthening financial controls
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Advanced Excel skills and strong systems capability
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Experience with iFinance, iSAMS or similar systems would be advantageous.
